Psoriasis

Features:

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease characterised by the appearance of red patches that flake. The epidermis is renewed excessively and the cells accumulate on the surface of the skin and cause scales. Its origin is still unknown, but genetic and environmental factors play a role in its onset. It can occur at any age.

Possible treatments

There is currently no cure, but there are many ways to control the disease:

  • Local therapy: by salicylic acid-based creams, vitamin D and corticosteroids applied locally to counteract the infection and flaking. It is also advisable to clean the skin gently (no soap, no alcohol) and moisturize sufficiently with appropriate creams, bath oil or possibly crystals from the Dead Sea. They have a soothing and beneficial effect on the skin.
  • Phototherapy: which uses ultraviolet (PUVA / UVB), possibly in combination with medication.
  • Systemic therapy: In severe cases, the administration of oral or subcutaneous medication (under medical prescription).

Advice

  • Moisturize your skin daily and avoid scratching or rubbing your skin.
  • Eat correctly, enough Omega 3 and antioxidants.
  • Avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol.
  • Try to avoid stress or control it through relaxation techniques.
